Aston Villa's History
Aston Villa is a football club based in Birmingham, England, founded as early as 1874. A beloved club with many nicknames, it is known as The Villa, Villa, The Villans, The Lions, and Pride of the Midlands. In 1888, Villa was one of the founding members of The Football League, the predecessor to the Premier League, and is one of only two league clubs to have spent over a hundred seasons in England’s top division. Their achievements include ten FA Cup finals, of which they have won seven, as well as five League Cup victories.
The home stadium, Villa Park, has been Villa’s ground since 1897 and today holds nearly 43,000 spectators. The fans call themselves Villans or Holte Enders (inspired by a stand at the stadium) and take great pride in their long and rich history.

It’s common for outsiders to mistakenly spell Villans with an extra 'i.' The term Holte Enders is derived from one of the larger stands at Villa Park, namely the Holte End. It’s also from this section that fans enthusiastically sing matchday chants to strengthen their sense of community. Naturally, rival fans have other names for them!
And some fans joke that Villa are 'historians' because they’re always talking about the past.
