Where is Crystal Palace’s stadium, Selhurst Park, located?
Selhurst Park is located 13 km from central London and is best reached by train. The nearest train stations are Selhurst, Thornton Heath, and Norwood Junction.
The stadium is within a 15-minute walk from each of these stations. Please note that Crystal Palace station is about 3 km from the stadium, so it is not recommended to travel to this station.
From central London, the fastest options are either: London Bridge – Southern trains run directly to Norwood Junction station, followed by a short walk (30 minutes total).
Or from London Victoria – Southern trains run directly to Selhurst station, followed by a short walk (40 minutes total).
On the club’s website, you can find more detailed information about the best ways to get to the stadium.
What are Crystal Palace fans called?
Crystal Palace fans are usually called Eagles or simply Palace fans. The nickname Eagles comes from the club’s crest, which features an eagle, while Palace fans simply refers to the supporters of Crystal Palace FC.
The well-known Holmesdale Fanatics is the name of an organised supporters’ group and ultras group associated with the club, and they are based in the famous Holmesdale Road Stand at home matches.
Rivals of Crystal Palace see their fans as boring and call them 'Stripey Nigels'. This is far from the truth, as Crystal Palace supporters are among the loudest football fans in England.
In fact, a fan survey ranked them third for the loudest Premier League fans and second most likely to sing for their team.
Who are the greatest Crystal Palace players of all time?
Some of the Crystal Palace players who appear on every ranking list are:
Jim Cannon
Ian Wright
Geoff Thomas
Wilfried Zaha
Julian Speroni
Mark Bright
We have not listed the players in any particular order. We would never dare.
Who are Crystal Palace’s rivals?
Brighton are Palace’s biggest rivals. It may be confusing, as they are not based in the same city – they are not even neighbouring towns. There are almost 65 km between the two.
But sometimes it is not about distance. The hatred between the clubs was born in the 1970s after a series of controversial matches sparked a feud between Brighton’s manager Alan Mullery and Palace’s manager Terry Venables.
Charlton Athletic are another major rival for Crystal Palace, this time partly due to proximity, as both clubs are based in South London, but also because they once shared the same home ground.
Then we have Millwall. Once again, it is location that fuels the rivalry between these two. Millwall fans are quite well known for being, let’s say, a bit tough on their opponents on match day.
And twice as much when they face a London team, and three times as much when they face one of the other clubs from South London (even though West Ham are their main rivals).
