DETROIT PISTONS HISTORY

The Detroit Pistons have one of the most iconic identities in the NBA – a team built on physical basketball, tough defence and a winning culture forged through hard work. Founded in 1941 as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, the franchise relocated to Detroit in 1957, where it became a symbol of the city’s fighting spirit.

The Pistons have won three NBA titles – in 1989, 1990 and 2004 – each achieved in their own uncompromising way. In the 1980s, the infamous “Bad Boys” era, led by Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars and Dennis Rodman, saw the team’s relentless style of play deliver back-to-back championships. In the 2000s, a new dominant core of Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace and Rip Hamilton brought another title in 2004.

The team now plays its home games at Little Caesars Arena, where fans keep the rivalries with the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers very much alive.
