The history of KRC Genk
KRC Genk was founded in 1988 through a merger between the clubs Waterschei and Winterslag, and today it is one of Belgium’s leading football clubs. The team plays its home matches at Cegeka Arena, which holds around 23,000 spectators, and has firmly established itself as a top contender in the Jupiler Pro League.
Genk has won the Belgian league title four times, most recently in 2019, along with several domestic cup trophies. The club is particularly renowned for its excellent youth academy, which has produced stars such as Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois, and Leandro Trossard.
Genk is also a recognised presence on the European football stage and is known for its attacking style of play. KRC Genk is a club with both a proud history and an exciting future in Belgian and European football.
