The History of Mainz
FSV Mainz 05 is a German football club based in the city of Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate. Founded in 1905, the club has moved between different divisions of German football over the years. They have played both in the Bundesliga, Germany’s top league, as well as in lower divisions. One of the club’s most significant moments came in 2004 when they reached the Bundesliga for the first time, and since then they have established themselves as a consistent member of the top division.
The team plays its home matches at the Opel Arena, with a capacity of around 34,000 spectators. The club’s colours are red and white, and they are nicknamed ‘Die Nullfünfer’ (= the 05ers).
