The History of Hearts
Heart of Midlothian FC, often simply called Hearts, is one of Edinburgh’s two major football clubs. Founded in 1874, it is one of Scotland’s oldest and historically most prominent clubs.
Hearts have won the Scottish league four times, although their last league title came in 1960. The club has also claimed several cup titles, including the Scottish Cup, where they celebrated a historic 5–1 victory over Hibernian in the 2012 final.
Their main rivals are Hibernian, Edinburgh’s other leading club, and when the two sides meet in the Edinburgh Derby, it is one of the great highlights of Scottish league football.
Although their fortunes have fluctuated over the years, Hearts have recovered strongly and continue to be one of Scotland’s most respected clubs, with ambitions to once again challenge the very best.
