Manchester United’s History
Manchester United was founded in 1878 and has been owned by the Glazer family since 2005. The club plays its home matches at Old Trafford, which has a capacity of 75,000 spectators. The stadium is also known as The Theatre of Dreams. In terms of league titles, Manchester United is England’s most successful club with 20 – one more than rivals Liverpool. The club has also won the Champions League three times, the Europa League once, and the FA Cup 12 times. In 1999, the club famously won the treble – the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup. That season, Swedish player Jesper Blomqvist was part of the squad. Other Swedes who have represented Manchester United include Henrik Larsson, Bojan Djordjic, Zlatan Ibrahimović, and most recently Victor Nilsson Lindelöf.
The club’s most successful era came under the leadership of the iconic manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Some of the greatest players in the club’s history include Ryan Giggs, Bobby Charlton, Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney, Gary Neville, and David Beckham.

Where is Manchester United’s stadium, Old Trafford, located?
Old Trafford is located in south-west Manchester, and the easiest way to reach the stadium on match days is by public transport. From the city centre, you can get to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ by bus, train or tram.
The nearest train station to the stadium is Old Trafford station, which is less than a five-minute walk away. This station is wheelchair accessible.
The Trafford Park line is now open, with the new stops at Imperial War Museum and Wharfside just a short walk from the stadium.
Some consider Trafford Bar tram stop (located on Seymour Grove, M16 0TG) to be the best option, with trams running to both of Manchester’s main stations – Piccadilly and Victoria – as it tends to be quieter than other routes. Old Trafford is in Zone 2 of the tram system, and tickets can be purchased on the platform, or you can use a contactless card to tap in and out of your journey, just like on the London Underground.
Several bus routes also run to Old Trafford from the city centre, but traffic will make the journey slower on match days. Bus numbers 53, 79, 250, 255, 256, 263 and X50 all serve the stadium.

Fans all over the world, whether at Old Trafford or following the club from afar, are often referred to as ‘Red Devils’ to show their support for Manchester United.
Who are Manchester United’s rivals?
Manchester United’s biggest rivals are traditionally considered to be Manchester City and Liverpool.
The rivalry with Manchester City, known as the Manchester Derby, stems from the fact that both clubs are based in Manchester and have a long history of competing against each other. This rivalry has intensified in recent years due to both clubs’ success and their battle for dominance in the Premier League.
The rivalry with Liverpool, known as the North West Derby, is based on historical and geographical factors. Manchester United and Liverpool are two of the most successful clubs in English football and both have huge fan bases. Matches between these two sides are often played with great passion and intensity.
Other notable rivals of Manchester United include Arsenal, Chelsea and Leeds United.
The rivalry with Arsenal developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when both clubs were the dominant forces in English football.
The rivalry with Chelsea intensified during the 2000s and 2010s due to frequent meetings in high-stakes matches and competitions.
The rivalry with Leeds United dates back to the fierce clashes between the two clubs in the 1960s and 1970s, and although the intensity has lessened in recent years due to Leeds’ absence from the Premier League, it still remains significant for many fans.

These areas are staffed throughout the match, but it may take time to drop off and collect bags. It is recommended to leave bags at least two hours before kick-off.
