The History of Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad is a prominent football club from San Sebastián in the Basque Country, Spain. Founded in 1909, the club has a long and proud history in Spanish football.
Over the years, Real Sociedad has on several occasions been a strong challenger to the bigger clubs in La Liga, such as Barcelona and Real Madrid. The club’s greatest success came in the 1980/1981 season when they won the La Liga title, and they have also enjoyed success in the Copa del Rey with several titles to their name.
The team plays its home matches at the Anoeta Stadium (now officially known as the Reale Arena) in San Sebastián, which holds 39,000 spectators who come to watch their blue-and-white idols fight for victory.
The club has a strong tradition of developing talent – among the most notable are Xabi Alonso and Antoine Griezmann, who both came through its youth academy.
