The History of Swansea City AFC
Swansea City AFC was founded in 1912 and is one of the most successful Welsh clubs competing in the English league system. The club is often referred to as The Swans, a clear reference to the city’s symbol and its location on Swansea Bay. Over the years, the team has developed a strong identity where technical football and local pride go hand in hand.
Since 2005, Swansea have played their home matches at Liberty Stadium (now Swansea.com Stadium), a modern venue with a capacity of just over 21,000 spectators. The club’s greatest success came in 2013 when Swansea City won the League Cup after a convincing final victory over Bradford City at Wembley. The same period also marked the club’s most successful era in the Premier League, where the team became known for its attacking and possession-based style of play.
