The history of Bologna FC 1909
Bologna FC was founded in 1909 and is based in the city of Bologna in northern Italy. Historically, the club is one of the most successful in the country, having won seven Serie A titles as well as competing in the UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners’ Cup.
Home matches are played at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, a stadium with over 36,000 seats where passionate supporters cheer on their red and blue heroes, known as Rossoblù (“the red and blues”).
Bologna FC experienced difficult times during the 1970s and 1980s, and in the early 1990s the club went bankrupt. It was then renamed Bologna FC 1909, returned to Serie A, and went on to win the Intertoto Cup and reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.
