TENNESSEE TITANS HISTORY
The Tennessee Titans trace their history back to 1960, when the team was founded as the Houston Oilers. In their early years, they dominated the AFL, winning league titles in both 1960 and 1961. Following the AFL–NFL merger, the Oilers became an established team in the NFL before relocating to Tennessee in 1997 and rebranding as the Titans two years later.
The Titans play their home games at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, where the team’s devoted supporters – known as the “Titans faithful” – create an intense matchday atmosphere. The team’s greatest success came in the 1999 Super Bowl season, when they came just one yard short of forcing overtime in one of the most dramatic Super Bowl finales of all time, ultimately losing to the St. Louis Rams.
Several iconic players have represented the Titans over the years. Steve McNair was one of the toughest quarterbacks in the league, while Eddie George dominated as a running back. In more recent years, superstar Derrick Henry has carried the team with his physical playing style and relentless rushing power.
Rivalries with the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars make the Titans one of the most compelling teams in the AFC South. The Tennessee Titans are a team built on strength, tradition and determination – and watching them play in Nashville is an experience where classic NFL spirit meets a city full of music, passion and football culture.
