Inter’s history
FC Internazionale Milano, better known as Inter, was founded in 1908 and is one of the most prominent football clubs in both Italy and the world. The club boasts a rich history of success on both national and international stages. Inter have won Serie A multiple times and have also lifted prestigious European titles, including the UEFA Champions League.
Inter has a deep connection with the city of Milan, playing their home matches at the San Siro – one of the world’s most iconic football stadiums, with a capacity of 75,000 spectators. The club’s colours are black and blue, earning them the nickname “Nerazzurri” (the Black and Blues).
Throughout its history, Inter have had many legendary players and managers who have shaped the club’s legacy. The most remarkable achievement came during the 2009/2010 season, when under José Mourinho, the team won the domestic league, Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League – completing a historic treble.

Where is Inter’s stadium, San Siro, located?
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, or San Siro as it’s commonly known, is located in the western part of Milan. The stadium is about 6 km from the city centre and is easily accessible in several ways.
The easiest option on matchdays is to use public transport. San Siro is easy to reach by metro: take the lilac M5 line. The nearest stations are San Siro Ippodromo and San Siro Stadio, both just a short walk from the stadium.
Line M5 runs north of Milan’s city centre, passing Garibaldi Station. From most central areas, you’ll need to change either at Lotto (red M1 line) or Garibaldi Station (green M2 line). The journey from Piazza Duomo to the stadium takes just under 20 minutes.
Alternatively, the stadium can be reached by tram number 16. Take the tram from central Milan (west of Piazza Duomo) to San Siro Stadio, the final stop on the line. The journey takes around half an hour.
On matchdays, a shuttle service usually runs from Piazzale Lotto (MM1 – red line) starting two hours before kick-off.
For more detailed information on how to get to San Siro, please visit the club’s official website.
What are Inter Milan’s fans called?
Supporters and followers of Inter are commonly known as “Interisti” or “Nerazzurri.” “Interisti” is the most widely used term and refers to the dedicated and proud fans or members of Inter.
“Nerazzurri” reflects the club’s traditional colours — black and blue — and is often used to refer to both the players and the fans.
In the past, Inter fans were called “Bauscia,” a Milanese term meaning “braggart” or “show-off,” as the Nerazzurri were seen as the club of the middle class.
By contrast, AC Milan supporters were nicknamed “Casciavit” — meaning “screwdriver” in the Milanese dialect — since the Rossoneri were considered the team of the working class.
Who are Inter Milan’s rivals?
The Derby della Madonnina – or the Milan Derby – is one of the most famous derbies in the football world.
Inter and AC Milan share a stadium and have even shared a few players over the years.
The founders of Inter Milan broke away from the club following a disagreement about signing foreign players – and that’s how it all began. When the two sides split, Inter Milan came to be seen as the club of the middle class, while AC Milan was regarded as the club of the working class.
Both clubs have experienced periods of success: Inter were more dominant in the 1960s, while AC Milan enjoyed their golden era during the 1980s and 1990s.
Inter Milan also have a long-standing rivalry with Juventus, known as the “Derby d’Italia.” This rivalry developed due to the historic competition between the two clubs for titles and dominance in Italian football.
Other rivals include AS Roma and SSC Napoli, but the rivalries with AC Milan and Juventus remain the most significant and historically intense.
