Lin-Manuel Miranda was on holiday in Mexico when he came across Ron Chernow’s biography of Hamilton. After reading it, he began to wonder – what would the life of this Founding Father look like as a musical?

The show was composed over a seven-year period, from 2008 to 2015 – and it was well worth the wait!

Hamilton is meticulously researched and historically accurate, with both its narrative and lyrics rooted in authentic detail. Lines from personal letters and other original documents often find their way directly into the songs.

The Guardian even ranked Hamilton as the second greatest theatre work since 2000.
