The history of Sunderland AFC
Sunderland AFC, also known as "The Black Cats", is one of England’s most historic football clubs and was founded in 1879. The club is based in the city of Sunderland in North East England and played its home matches at the famous Roker Park until 1997. Since then, Sunderland has played at the Stadium of Light, one of the largest football stadiums in England with a capacity of around 49,000 spectators.

Their biggest rivals are Newcastle United, and matches between the two clubs are known as the "Tyne-Wear Derby".
