The history of UD Las Palmas
Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, also known as Los Amarillos, was founded in 1949 as a merger of five major clubs from Las Palmas — Real Club Victoria, Marino FC, CD Gran Canaria, Atlético Club, and Arenas Club. The purpose of the merger was to create a stronger, unified team that could represent the Canary Islands in national competitions and give local players the opportunity to compete without having to move to the Spanish mainland.
The team quickly rose to play in La Liga, making its debut in the top division in the 1951–52 season. Since then, UD Las Palmas has enjoyed many seasons in La Liga, with their best result being a second-place finish.
UD Las Palmas play their home matches at Estadio de Gran Canaria, which has a capacity of 32,400 spectators.
