The history of UD Las Palmas
Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, also known as Los Amarillos, was founded in 1949 as a merger of five major clubs from Las Palmas — Real Club Victoria, Marino FC, CD Gran Canaria, Atlético Club, and Arenas Club. The purpose of the merger was to create a stronger, unified team that could represent the Canary Islands in national competitions and give local players the opportunity to compete without having to move to the Spanish mainland.
The team quickly rose to play in La Liga, making its debut in the top division in the 1951–52 season. Since then, UD Las Palmas has enjoyed many seasons in La Liga, with their best result being a second-place finish.
UD Las Palmas play their home matches at Estadio de Gran Canaria, which has a capacity of 32,400 spectators.
We have happy travellers!
UD Las Palmas is island football, technique and pride in the middle of the Atlantic
Watching UD Las Palmas live is different from football on the Spanish mainland. The style of play is shaped by the climate, the tempo and a long tradition of technical players who grew up with ball control as second nature. The club represents the whole of Gran Canaria – an island where football blends local pride with a relaxed love of life.
The yellow-and-blue shirt is worn with strong identity, and the support from the stands is constant rather than explosive. Las Palmas is about creativity, patience and belief in its own style of football.

Matchday in Gran Canaria starts long before kick-off
In Gran Canaria, matchday blends naturally into holiday life. Many supporters begin the day at the beach or in the city’s restaurant districts before the focus gradually shifts towards the stadium.
Before the match it’s common to:
• Enjoy lunch around Las Canteras beach
• Gather in bars in Siete Palmas near the stadium
• Take the bus or walk together with home supporters
• Let the warm evening air build the atmosphere before kick-off
The pace is relaxed – but the passion is clear.
Matches that mean a little extra
Some fixtures bring the entire island together.
• UD Las Palmas v Granada CF – intense meetings between two clubs aiming to return to La Liga.
• UD Las Palmas v UD Almería – technical and high-tempo football between two teams from southern Spain.
• Top matches in Segunda División – the battle for promotion.
When Estadio de Gran Canaria fills up, you can truly feel how strong the connection between the club and the island is.
What makes UD Las Palmas unique?
It’s the combination of playing style and environment.
You can see it in:
• A technical, possession-based attacking style
• Locally developed players from the islands’ academies
• A crowd that appreciates the quality of the game as much as the result
