The history of CD Leganés
Club Deportivo Leganés, founded in 1928, is a Spanish football club based in the city of Leganés, just south of Madrid. The club, which plays its home matches at Estadio Municipal de Butarque, began its journey in the lower divisions and gradually established itself as a competitive force in Spanish football.
The greatest success in the club’s history came in 2016, when Leganés reached La Liga for the first time. During their four seasons in the top flight, they faced some of Spain’s best teams and impressed with their strong defensive style of play. One of their most memorable moments came in 2018, when they sensationally defeated Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu in the Copa del Rey.
Although the club now plays in the Segunda División again, CD Leganés remains a respected team, known for its strong local roots and loyal supporters.
